Chioma the daughter of the late Enugu State Chief Judge wrote a heart breaking tribute in his memory

Chisom Cynthia Umezulike, the daughter of the late Enugu State Chief Judge, Justice Innocent Azubike Umezulike pens a heart-wrenching tribute in the memory of her late father. Says this is the worst year of her life. Read below.

This year I lost my father, my best friend and mentor. My father loved me exceedingly - his love was so pure, overwhelming and precious. We had an incredible friendship based on trust, mutual respect, loyalty, passion and comradeship. In February, my beloved father was admitted to the hospital where for several months he fought extremely hard for his life. I was by his side every single moment fighting with him and for him. I fought for him not just because he is my father. I fought for him because he single-handedly raised me and gave me the very best this life has to offer. When I was fighting for him, I conceived I was fighting for the love of my life.

Today I stand tall as his daughter, best friend and learned colleague, to celebrate his life and accomplishments. My father's legal resumé is unparalleled (a Jurist, Author and Orator like no other), his accomplishments unrivalled, his pedigree undisputed and his charisma unequalled. My father departed this world with a pronouncement "A Great Man is Leaving Today". Indeed, a large IROKO tree has fallen, and no one walking the face of the earth would ever fill his enormous shoes. In adversity, my father showed insurmountable strength, in disappointments he exhibited calmness, in betrayals he manifested bravery. My father's life was exemplary and remarkable, his strength, tenacity and resolve outstanding. He lived unapologetically, strong, fearless, determined in his path - a prerogative of a brave apostle of justice.

In your final hour, Daddy, you said "Chisomeje, I bless you". I will take your unfathomable and immeasurable love and blessing everywhere I go. Thank you for providing me with the best education and training this life has to offer. Thank you for the unconditional love you showed me.Thank you for your kindness, generosity, guidance and support. For as long as I walk this earth, I promise your footprints will not be forgotten, and your story will never be left untold. Most profoundly, I Chisom Cynthia Umezulike will never forget that I am the daughter of a GREAT MAN.

Jonathan tell president Buhari that he's not responsible For his Failure

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that he has nothing to do with President Muhammdau Buhari’s failure in appointment of ministers early enough to inspire confidence in investors.

The former president was reacting to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu in which he blamed the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari in the appointment of ministers six months after taking over office on the administration of former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
Below is Jonathan's statement titled, "Garba Shehu’s gaffe on Jonathan’s Handover notes to Buhari", which was released on Monday and signed by Ikechukwu Eze, his Media Adviser.

"Our attention has been drawn to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu in which he blamed the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint ministers until six months after taking over office on the administration of former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

Speaking on a Channels television programme on Monday December 17, Shehu had claimed that it took President buhari who was sworn in on May 29, 2015 until November 11, 2015 to appoint his ministers because the “President was given handover notes 48 hours to the handover of power”.

As strange as that particular assertion may sound, it still beggars belief that a spokesman of a President who is seeking re-election would still be looking for a scapegoat for the administration’s failure, at a time he should be showcasing his scorecard.

That amounts to merely clutching at straws. One thing is as clear as daylight: The Jonathan administration has absolutely nothing to do with the failure of this government to appoint ministers early enough to inspire confidence in investors because it is obvious that handover notes from a predecessor does not contain the list of ministers for the incoming administration.

However, that is even making light of Garba Shehu’s unending embarrassing gaffe. It is expected that a man who has been around the corridors of power for that long, beginning from when he served as a media adviser under President Obasanjo for years, should understand Government’s basic functions and procedures.

Handover notes, being transitioning documents, are usually received by an incoming President from his predecessor at the time of change of government.

It is not a document that guides a President to appoint his ministers. Under normal circumstances, a newly inaugurated President needs the support of his ministers, who would handle different departments of Government, to study and understand his handover notes for effective performance of his initial duties.

Those who think like Shehu that a Government would not function properly if it does not receive handover notes in time, should be reminded that there is no law establishing the process.

It is simply a matter of convenience for an outgoing President to develop handover notes to guide his successor understand key issues and hit the ground running. In his own case, former president Jonathan magnanimously set up a transition team that produced the handover document which President Buhari received ahead of his inauguration.

Anyone who uses handover notes to justify a President’s indiscretion of not appointing ministers until after spending six months in power, is either being mischievous or does not really understand governance processes.

Sometimes, when Mr. Shehu speaks, he comes across as someone who is unaware of the fact that, under our laws, an administration is elected for a tenure of four years within which it is expected to have fulfilled its campaign promises, before returning to the electorates for a fresh mandate.

In case he does not know, Shehu should be reminded that blaming others for one’s failures is not a prove of performance. Assuming, without out conceding, that the last administration was as bad as they want Nigerians to believe, is it not a fact of governance that it is the duty of every responsible administration to seek to make better the situation it met on ground?

Anything less than that is a prove of incompetence for which a failed administration has no moral justification to ask for a fresh mandate. While members of the current administration continue to blame President Jonathan for their failure to deliver on their mandate, they should be reminded that there are many African success stories that proved that a progress-minded administration has no business focusing only on the past.

From a past of the worst genocide in recent history, Rwandan President Paul Kagame did not blame anybody when he took charge. He simply hit the ground running, and today, we all know where Rwanda stands in Africa’s growth and development index.

The story is similar in Cote d’Ivoire where President Alassane Ouattara was able to turn around the Ivorian economy within two years after it had virtually collapsed following the negative impact of the country’s worst political crisis.

As the Buhari Government nears its end, the minders of the administration should please tell Nigerians what new projects, programmes and institutions for good governance they have added to those established by the various administrations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), since they took office on May 29, 2015.

The truth is that this unhelpful blame game must stop if we have to move forward as a nation."

One of the counts reads: "That you Dr. Tunde Ayeni whilst being the Chairman Board of Directors of Skye Bank Plc and Timothy Ajani Oguntayo whilst being the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Skye Bank between the years 2014 and 2015 conspired at different times to do an illegal act, to wit; caused cash delivery to you, Dr. Tunde Ayeni of the sums of money totalling N4,750,000,000 (Four Billion, Seven Hundred and Fifty Million Naira) and USD5,000,000 (Five Million United States Dollars) belonging to Skye Bank Plc, contrary to the provisions of Section 1(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 (as amended) read together with Section 18 (a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 (as amended) and punishable under Section 16(2) (b) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 (as amended)". They pleaded “not guilty” to all the counts.

In view of their pleas, prosecuting counsel, Abba Mohammed, prayed the court for a trial date and prayed that the defendants be remanded in prison custody, pending the hearing of their bail applications.

Before the court’s ruling, Counsel for the first defendant, Dele Adesina, SAN, who held brief for the lead counsel, Wole Olanipekun, SAN, informed the court of their pending bail application, which was served on the prosecution on December 13, 2018. Counsel for the second defendant, Oyetola Oshobi, SAN, made similar application.

Ruling on the applications for bail, the court admitted the defendants to bail on in the sum of N50 million with two sureties each in like sum.

The court further ruled: “The sureties may be either civil servants of not less than the rank of assistant director or be private businessmen or professionals provided that one of the sureties is a civil servant, the other surety being a private businessman or a professional must be the owner of a landed property of sufficient value within Abuja metropolis, excluding the satellite towns,” the trial judge held.

Justice Dimg alt=' N8bn fraud: Skye Bank chairman Tunde Ayeni arraigned in court, gets 36 hours to fulfill his bail conditions from home' class='img-responsive text-center' style='margin: auto;'ba added that: “But where the two sureties are private businessmen or professionals, they must show evidence of landed properties of sufficient value within Abuja metropolis excluding the satellite towns.

"The defendants shall deposit their international passports before the court and shall not travel outside the country without the permission of the court".

Nwafor Chigozie a Nigerian musician calls out friend who attended his wedding and gave him a dud cheque of N5,000 as wedding gift

A Nigerian musician and PR expert has expressed his disappointment at his friend who attended his wedding and gave him a dud cheque as wedding gift.
Nwafor Chigozie Paul also known as Don Saint, took to Facebook to call out the wedding guest after his wife visited the bank to cash the N5,000 cheque but was told by bank officers that there was no money in the account.
Sharing a photo of the cheque on Facebook, Don Saint wrote;
Life is simple but people complicate it...
Someone came to my wedding on 1st Dec, and dropped a cheque of N5,000 for us to cash. I called him two days later and he said we can cash the cheque anyday from the 10th of Dec.
Today, I sent my wife to the bank to cash the money, since she banks with the same bank too.
And after waiting for about one hour, 15 mins, she was told she can't cash the cheque, that the person got no money in his account.
Like seriously? It would have been cool for me, if you came, ate, drank and just left, than putting my wife through this stress...
It's a big shame coming from a man like you!
Thank you!
