Atiku: Court grants order against Buhari govt

The Federal High Court in Lagos State has given the go-ahead to Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in its suit seeking: “an order for leave to apply for an order of mandamus compelling the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola SAN to disclose the names of the contractors.”

SERAP had in January issued a Freedom of Information request and sued Mr. Fashola following allegations by former Nigeria’s Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar that “contractors who were paid hundred percent upfront for power projects disappeared with public funds without carrying out any work.”

The decision by Justice Chuka Austine Obiozor, a Professor of Law, last Friday has now paved the way for SERAP to move forward with its suit to compel Mr Fashola to publish: “the names of all contractors and companies engaged in the power sector since the return of democracy in 1999 to date, details of specific projects and the amounts paid for them.

Justice Obiozor granted the order for leave following the hearing of an argument in court on exparte motion by SERAP’s counsel Mrs Adelanke Aremo. Justice Obiozor also ruled that Mr. Fashola be put on notice and adjourned the matter to Thursday 11 April 2019, for the hearing of arguments on the motion on notice, on why the names of the alleged corrupt contractors should not be published.

In the suit number FHC/L/CS/105/19, SERAP is seeking reliefs to compel Mr Fashola “to provide specific details on the names and whereabouts of the contractors who collected public funds meant for electricity projects but disappeared with the money without executing any projects, starting from the return of democracy in 1999 to 2018.”

It would be recalled that Mr. Fashola had earlier this month written to SERAP promising: “to refer the request for details of alleged contractors and companies that collected money for electricity projects and failed to executive any projects to the Ministry’s agencies for necessary action and appropriate response.”

Mr. Fashola’s response followed his letter to SERAP in February in which he said: “We have searched the Ministry’s record and the information you applied for is not held by the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing (Power Sector).”

However, SERAP disagreed with the response, saying: “The public expectation is that government information, when in the hands of any public institutions and agencies, should be available to the public, as prescribed by the FOI Act. The FOI Act should always be used as an authority for disclosing information rather than withholding it.”

In his response to SERAP’s reaction, Mr. Fashola said: “The Ministry’s letter to your organization was not an attempt to deny the request for information. The Ministry is committed to compliance with the Laws of Nigeria including the Freedom of Information Act, 2011. The Ministry will refer your request to its agencies for necessary action and appropriate response.”

Police stop protest by AAC supporters in Port Harcourt

The police yesterday in Port Harcourt stopped the protest embarked upon by supporters of the African Action Congress, AAC, at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The policemen had cordoned off the INEC office in Port Harcourt, ahead of the planned resumption of collation of the governorship and state assembly election results.

The protesters were marching to the INEC office to deliver their protest letter when the police men swooped on them using tear-gas.

The Rivers State Government had on Thursday placed a ban on street protest in the state till further notice. The Commissioner of Information and Communications in the state, Emma Okah, had in a statement yesterday said that government has banned political protests in the state.

Supporters of African Action Congress, AAC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP however defied the ban and gathered to stage protest in the state.

AAC supporters, who had gathered very early, had planned to go to the INEC office to demand  immediate transfer of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Obo Effanga, and an outright cancellation of the election, while the destination of the PDP supporters was not known before the police intervened.

Addressing news men, the Executive Director of Electorate Rights Defence and Education Network, ERDEN, David Adejola, described the action of the police as barbaric, adding that the police should not have dispersed the protesters who were peaceful.

Save Rivers from crisis

Adejola, however, urged the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to immediately transfer Effanga from Rivers State, accusing him of alleged incompetence and bias.

Adejola alleged that Effanga allowed inclusion of card carrying members of PDP to make list of Returning Officers, Presiding Officers and Electoral Officers for the exercise.

Adejola said: “We in the Electorate Rights Defence and Education Network (ERDEN) is appealing to your conscience as a Nigerian and as the chairman of INEC to please excise the powers conferred on you by the constitution and electoral Act of Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended to call, reprimand and stop Mr Obo Effanga from plunging Rivers State into unimaginable anarchy.

“The March 9th,2019 governorship election and House of Assembly election was already planned to produce a premeditated winner against all known electoral laws in the country.

“First, known card carrying members of PDP were intentionally recruited as ROs, COs and POs in order to give undue advantage to PDP.”

He then demanded that, “the purported election of 9th March 2019 result that is being envisaged to be announced remains invalid as time and events have naturally annulled the fraud (election) perpetuated by the REC and cohorts.

“That the said suspension was an arrest of due process, we will recall that elections had been concluded at 2pm on the 9th of March while the suspension based on widespread violence was at 4pm Sunday March 10th 2019 when seven (7) LGA’s had been collated out of the available 14 LGA results.”

APC opposes Wike’s ban on protests

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state has described the ban on street protest by Governor Nyesom Wike as height of absurdity.

The Publicity Secretary of APC, Chris Finebone, noted that the governor does not have the right to stop peaceful protests, adding that the ban was aimed at stopping people of the state from exposing the ills of the government.

Finebone said: “We, the APC consider the ban on protests announced by the Rivers State Government as the height of absurdity by a government. We believe that Gov. Nyesom Wike who authorised the ban is unaware that Rivers people and indeed Nigerians have inalienable right to peaceful protest.

“Perhaps the governor should be reminded that Justice Adekeye J.S.C. (rtd) once stated that, a rally or placard carrying demonstration has become a form of expression of views on current issues affecting government and the governed in a sovereign state.

“It is necessary at this point to inform Gov. Wike that his ban on protest is simply a waste of time and space. Nigeria Police cannot enforce an illegal ban except the governor intends to deploy his usual gun-toting hoodlums.

“He should remember that this is not 2015; this is 2019. If the governor tries it, he will not like the outcome and he knows it.”

Widower forced to show his manhood to friends and officials after his wife's death was blamed on his large genitals

A grieving widower was forced to show his penis to family, friends, and officials after his father-in-law reported him to the police claiming his genitals were so large that it killed his daughter during sex.

The widower, named only as Baresh, was brought in for questioning in February this year after his father-in-law, Nedi Sito, 55, reported him. Nedi Sito, from the village of Maron Kidul in the Maron District of Indonesia's East Java province, had heard rumours circulating about his daughter Jumantri's death, aged 23, so he reported his son-in-law to police.

At the station, Baresh was asked to open up his penis to be inspected by all, including his late wife's relatives and the head of the village.

After inspecting the widower's penis, it was decided that he has a "fairly normal sized" penis and it was not the cause of his wife's death.

It was later discovered that the woman had died after suffering an apparent epileptic fit during the night. The woman had been suffering from epilepsy for years.

The head of the Probolinggo criminal investigation unit, told Detik Today:

After seeing firsthand the size of the genitals that were thought to be large, it turned out they were just normal sized.

At that time the father-in-law revoked the report and both parties have now forgiven each other.

Lagos 'gay' pastor, Chizemdere Ezuma arrested for infecting underage boys with HIV

The founder of Jesus Intervention Household Ministry, Ejigbo, Lagos, Chizemdere Ezuma has been arrested for allegedly sodomising, prostituting and infecting underage boys with HIV virus.

According to The Nation, he was arrested at his residence after an informant notified the police he had resurfaced, three months after he was declared wanted. It was gathered that the suspect climbed his ceiling where he hid for over two hours to evade arrest when detectives stormed his home few days ago.

The suspect was declared wanted after an alleged male prostitute, Prince Chinecherem, was arrested and charged to court after a 16-year-old victim, Anthony Ikem, made revelations that implicated them.

Ikem, who was found sneaking out of the suspect’s home with a polythene bag containing used condoms and other items, was accosted by neighbours and he confessed he was one of several sex partners of the pastor. Ikem also confirmed that the Ezuma usually gave them to service some of his male clients including VIPs. The teenager was taken to the hospital for checks and it was discovered he was HIV+.

It was gathered that some residents of the community were worried he was corrupting their male children and initiating them into the club, hence, their keen interest to see that he was arrested and prosecuted.

Findings revealed that Ezuma was moved to the Gender Section at the Police Command Ikeja, yesterday afternoon, following pressure from certain quarters in the division to release him.

In his confessional statement to the police, Ezuma claimed he usually paid the boys N2,000 for sex. Investigation showed that he brought about 15 boys into his apartment where he forcefully penetrated them all through the anus. “The reverend confirmed he is HIV+ and has been receiving treatment for over three years. So, he knew he was HIV positive and still infected his victims and clients with it,” said a source.

Fani-Kayode reacts to Buhari’s meeting with CAN, warns church leaders

A former Aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to the meeting of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, leadership.

Fani-Kayode, in a post on his verified Twitter handle on Friday, said CAN should not allow itself to be forced into congratulating the All Progressives Congress (APC) over its success at the last presidential election.

He alleged that the ruling party was responsible for the massacres and death of innocent Nigerians and yet rigged themselves back into office.

President Buhari, notwithstanding, assured the Christian leaders of his commitment to leave Nigeria better than he met it in 2015.

He also affirmed that his administration will continue to address important national challenges including security, economy and corruption.

However, Fani-Kayode tweeted, “You cannot claim to be a crusader for justice and a champion of those that have been massacred over the years and then contemplate congratulating those that are responsible for those massacres and that had the temerity to brazenly rig themselves back into power. CAN beware!”

Grandmother, 55, gives birth to her own GRANDCHILD after acting as a surrogate for her 31-year-old daughter who was born without a womb

A grandmother has given birth to her own grandchild – because her daughter was born without a womb.

Emma Miles, 55, who already has two of her own children, gave the ultimate gift by offering to be a surrogate for her daughter Tracey Smith, 31, who feared she would never have a child of her own after being diagnosed with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome (MRKH).

Because Mrs Smith's ovaries still worked normally, she used IVF with her husband, Adam, 40, to create an embryo which was then implanted into Mrs Miles.

Even though Mrs Miles had already been through the menopause, she was able to be a surrogate because the baby was created from her daughter's eggs. Her womb was healthy enough to carry a child, though she needed to shed six stone (38kg) to reach a healthy weight and needed hormones to ensure the pregnancy took.

Older mothers, those over 35, face a higher risk of miscarriage and pre-eclampsia - a complication that can prove deadly to both woman and baby. But desperate to help her daughter, Mrs Miles decided to go ahead with surrogacy anyway.

Mrs Miles - a supermarket worker - gave birth to Evie Siân Emma Smith on January 16. She was healthy and weighed 7lbs 7oz, though she was born by caesarean section because Mrs Miles' natural labour was taking too long.

Emma Miles, 55, (right) was a surrogate for her own daughter, Tracey, and her husband, Adam, because Tracey had been born without a womb so couldn't have children naturally herself

Evie Smith was born by c-section on January 16th this year, weighing 7lbs 7oz – her parents Mr and Mrs Smith must now formally adopt her because parental rights automatically go to the surrogate and her partner – Mrs Smith's parents

Mrs Smith said: 'Every moment of heartache was so worth it just to have our little bundle in our arms. I am so grateful to mum for her amazing gift to us'

Deproscribe IPOB now, HURIWA tells Buhari

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to adopt measures to calm the tensed atmosphere in Nigeria and bridge the divides created by many of his policies and pronouncements in his first  tenure.

The policies, according to HURIWA, include his proscription of the unarmed self determination group, Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and its labelling as a terror group; his heavily lopsided top level security appointments skewed to favour his Hausa/Fulani Muslim kinsmen and his failure to rein in armed   herdsmen who have destroyed many largely Christian communities in the North Central and have slaughtered women, children and old men including youths in their thousands, with none of these killers being prosecuted and sanctioned in accordance with the law.

In a statement by the group yesterday, HURIWA said it has always faulted the misuse of state power by the Federal Government officials, including Mr. President, which resulted in the illegal proscription of an unarmed group, such as IPOB and its labelling as a terror group, even as the same administration went about dialoguing with the violent armed herdsmen killer gangs and failing to declare their leaders known as Miyetti Allah Cattle Owners Association, a terror organisation.

HURIWA also condemned the killings of unarmed demonstrators in Onitsha, Aba and Umuahia prior to and during the ill-fated Operation Python Dance II, which targeted the destruction of the civilians and members of IPOB.

The group said the government encouraged impunity and lawlessness by not charging indicted operatives of armed security forces to court for unlawful killings of IPOB members as recorded in a science and evidence based reports by such credible groups like the Amnesty International.

HURIWA recalled that a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, DDI, (as he then was) Major General John Enenche in Abuja,  listed reasons the group was declared a terrorist organisation to include the  formation of a Biafra Secret Service; formation of Biafra National Guard; unauthorised blocking of public access roads; and extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks.

HURIWA contended that the claims by the Army were absolutely untrue, spurious, unconstitutional and had demonstrated a plot to demonise the group only because the members are mostly from the Igbo speaking South-East of Nigeria that has in the last four years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration suffered systemic marginalisation and has not been given her due place in terms of appointments at the top most security level to depict the federal character principles.

Ifeanyi Ubah speaks on defection to APC, meeting with Buhari

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Anambra South Senator-elect, has reacted to the report of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

DAILY POST earlier reported that Ubah, Anambra South Senator-elect of the Young People’s Party (YPP) on Monday dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oshiohmole informed the APC National Working Committee members, returning/newly-elected senators at the Presidential Villa, on Monday, that Ubah was now with the ruling party.

However, Ubah in a statement said he is just caucusing with the ruling party which offers him value than being a YPP Senator.

On why he attended the meeting with President Buhari and APC caucus, Ubah said he went to the meeting in order to seek solutions to the problems Igbo traders are having in Lagos.

The statement reads: “Yesterday I was in Lagos with the Leadership of the Senate and over 20 other senator-elect to brief the press. After the briefing, I invited by our trader brothers from Tradefair Bba to meet the senators over the tussles our brothers are having with BPE over their assets and the rumours of privatizing the market.

“Luckily, Senate Leader and by God’s grace the incoming Senate President was the chairman that resolved BBA issues in 2011 with BPE( bureau of public enterprise) and made the recommendations that they are enjoying till date and he promised to swing into action immediately to resolve their current issues again and we left Lagos to Abuja for a dinner with Mr. President and APC Senators and their caucus.

“In the dinner, the APC Chairman introduced me as a potential APC incoming Senator. This was his quote and his view of which he’s doing well in marketing me but I know my mission and has not changed from my last statement of last week.

“The most important thing is that I’m caucusing with the ruling party and presently has more value as a YPP senator.”

Details of Buhari’s meeting with APC Governors, Senators-elect emerges

President Muhammadu Buhari has frowned at some actions and decisions of the 8th National Assembly, saying such activities remained regrettable.

Buhari made this known when he hosted state governors and senators-elect of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to a dinner at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday night.

He particularly cited the deliberate and persistent delay in passing the nation’s annual budget by the National Assembly.

He, therefore, challenged the in-coming 9th National Assembly to do things differently from the outgoing 8th senate so as to enable his administration achieve its target of transforming the nation.

“This is my fifth and last time of standing for an election – for that reason, I’ll like to leave something behind.

“And what I want to leave cannot be successfully done without your support.

“So, that is why I’m appealing for your support. What happened in the last Senate and so on is regrettable because I still feel it shouldn’t take seven months to pass a budget. You have a very, very serious job ahead of you.

“So, what I’m appealing is that any major decision you are going to take please reflect more on the country than yourself as a person – what effect will it have on the country,’’ NAN quoted him as saying.
While promising to work and partner with the 9th national assembly in promoting peace, stability and economic prosperity in the country, the president thanked the governors and senators-elect for their support and understanding.

Teen girl who raped her friend's brother, 4, reveals why she did it

A 17-year-old girl who raped her friend's 4-year-old brother has revealed why she did it.

Cynthia Mubanga, 17, from Kalulushi, Zambia, told police that she raped the young boy because she had no boyfriend to sleep with. Cynthia said she has been feeling horny ever since she became friends with Kathrine - the elder sister of the boy she raped - because Kathrine has been telling her stories of how it feels to have sex with a man.

She told the police in front of her parents and parents of the boy: "I was feeling too sexy because of the stories which my friend Kathrine used to tell me at school. And due to lack of a man to sleep with, I decided to sleep with her young brother…I am really sorry."

Medical examinations conducted yesterday proved that Cynthia is still a virgin as the 4-year-old boy couldn't penetrate her enough to break her hymen.

The young boy identified as Ken was taken to the hospital for tests and treatment as his private part had a few sores. He has been found to be negative of all sexually transmitted diseases.

The girl is still in police custody but the police are urging the parents of the boy to withdraw the case since their son is medically okay.

'The only regret I have in life is that I wasn’t allowed to marry the man of my choice' – Patience Ozokwor

Veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor in a new interview has opened up on the only regret she has in life, how her kids prevented her from getting married again and the role her mum played in her first marriage.

See excerpts from her interview with Punchng below...

Since the death of your husband, have you ever considered remarrying?

Yes. There was a time I wanted to remarry but my children said no. They are all grown now. They said if they were young, they wouldn’t have objected. Now that they are grown, they say they will be my husband and they have been trying. The only thing they don’t do is go to bed with me (laughs). They said that their friends would laugh at them that their mother abandoned them, but I didn’t see it that way. It really brought problems. I wanted to remarry but my sister and other relations came and said that I should concede to them and I accepted but with the condition that they would also listen to me anytime I tell them to stop being friends with any of their friends that I don’t like and they agreed. So we have been managing one another.

Do you have any regrets in life?

The only regret I have in life is that I wasn’t allowed to marry the man of my choice. That is it but I was able to cope. I had suitors, I was going to choose one among them but my parents said that I would marry their choice. If they had allowed me, I would have loved to make my choice.

You got married early in life following your parents’ bidding. Was it that you were betrothed to him?

No, I wasn’t betrothed to him, but my mother was a kind of woman that always liked to punish any child that misbehaved publicly. You know all those Christian mothers that would be in the disciplinary section to punish children. So, she didn’t want her child to come out of secondary school and not get married because she was afraid you could bring her to where she had been punishing people. So she insisted I must get married. I said okay but I had a suitor. But she said no. I didn’t know what to do because I had put all my eggs in one basket; he was in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I was waiting to go to school so that I would marry him but my mother wouldn’t wait. So I had to obey her. There was a big fight but in our days, you would not be the one to say I will marry this person; it was your parents that would have the final say in your marriage, so I had to give up.

How would you describe your childhood? Were you stubborn?

I was not stubborn and I was not quiet. It was all play, play, play. But I was loved by so many people around.

At the time you ventured into acting, what were your parents’ reactions?

Only my father was still around and he was excited seeing me in a movie. Like my husband too, he would say (to our children), come and play your mother’s film for us to watch. They enjoy my movies. My immediate younger brother, who is in the US, will say that I have found my talent and that is why it has swallowed me.

If you were not an actor, what else would you have been in life?

I would be cooking. I still cook till today.

Troubling videos. Woman strips his sister's husband's mistress naked in public and flogs her

A series of videos are going viral online, showing a woman flogging another woman after stripping her naked.

In one of the videos, a woman, from Agulu, in Anambra state, can be seen flogging a naked woman while asking her if there weren't other single men around before she chose to have sex with a married man.

"Shame on you. Woman who sleeps with other's husbands," she said as she flogged her.

From the videos, it can be gathered that the naked woman slept with the other woman's sister's husband.

In another video, the woman asked how many times she slept with her sister's husband and she said, "two times."

She asked how much the man gives her and the naked woman said the man doesn't give her anything.

After flogging her, she opened the gate and tried forcing her to leave the compound naked. A man quickly intervened and directed the naked woman back inside.

In another video, the naked woman can be seen already tying a wrapper after a good Samaritan gave her one to cover her nakedness. But the other woman in orange top kept insisting that the woman removes the wrapper she's tying and go naked.

"Let her remove the wrapper," she said repeatedly in Igbo. "Give me that wrapper."

Others in the background begged the woman in orange carrying canes.

"Aunty please," They all pleaded.

Another woman begged her saying, "Should I kneel down for you? Aunty please."

But the woman was not appeased.

A man stepped into the scene to say, "We're all begging you."

But the woman with the cane warned him saying, "Don't cover evil."

The man replied: "Have mercy on her. Forgive her."

Other voices in the background can also be heard pleading on behalf of the woman clad in only wrapper.

But the woman insisted on punishing the nearly naked woman. She told her to kneel down and the woman obeyed.

After the woman knelt down, the one with the cane turned to the others to ask who gave the woman a wrapper. She then proceeded to ask the girl again to remove the wrapper and go naked.

"She knows what she did was not good," the others told the angry woman but she shut them up, asking them to "cool down."

The woman kneeling begged for forgiveness but the woman with the cane refused to forgive her and insisted that she removes the wrapper to expose her naked body.

When the lady refused to remove the wrapper, the woman began flogging her with a belt in her hand while threatening her and saying:

"Your butt, is it better than my sister's butt? Your butt, is it better than my sister's own?

"God will burn you," she added.

She continued: "You said it's not today you started licking it. It's not today. Somebody's husband."

After flogging her, she asked her to go home.

Social media users have reacted with anger and asked why the woman didn't face the cheating husband. Others criticized the naked woman for letting herself get humiliated to that extent without fighting back.
